This course is designed to provide educators with an opportunity to engage in a PLC Book Review of Krauss, J., & Boss, S. (2013). Thinking through project-based learning: Guiding deeper inquiry. Thousand Oaks, CA: Corwin
The course covers the following topics:
- A Primer on Innovation - The Need for Entrepreneurship
- STEM and Creating Innovators
- Innovative and Project Based Learning
- Designing Rich Learning Experiences
The course is targeted for educators in the K-12 grade levels, including special education, administration, and instructional coaches.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the “whys and hows” of Project Based Learning
- Why inquiry should drive learning.
- How to design rich learning experiences
- Develop a plan for a project-based learning unit.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
To receive a Passing grade, the participant must choose from a menu of options:
- Class Participation: Each student is expected to read the assigned material, participate in online discussions, and complete activities related to the course objectives.
- Activities: Many different learning activities will ensure participant engagement and learning in the course. These include embedded open-ended questions, scenarios, and reflections.
- Journal Entries: Embedded journal entries will require students to make a connection from the course theory and materials to the students’ own classroom practice.
- Embedded summaries of the required book.
Grade Distribution:
Assignments are pass/fail.
